You must be a current ASPDA Allied Healthcare member or Sports RD member for at least one year before applying for this scholarship.

ASPDA's Professional Development Scholarship provides financial assistance to applicants to advance their practice, enhance their knowledge, and become leaders in the field of sports and performance nutrition.

The purpose of a special interest group is to focus on education, collaboration, and community within a niche employment sector while also elevating the next generation of sports and performance dietitians.
 

Criteria to apply for a new Special Interest Group

All proposed SIGs must establish: 

  • A committee Chair
  • Three committee members
  • A minimum of four additional people willing to contribute to the work of the SIG

 

Minimum Requirements to form a Special Interest Group*

  • 20 or more additional ASPDA members from a variety of diverse employers indicating interest to join the SIG 
  • Agreement from the SIG committee to the following items annually: 
  • Work to advance the mission and vision of  ASPDA
  • Identify and address current issues and trends within the SIG
  • At least three opportunities to connect virtually (education, mentorship, networking, etc)
  • At a minimum, every other month committee meetings; meeting minutes to be shared with ASPDA Chief Operating Officer
  • Provide quarterly report to ASPDA Chief Operating Officer detailing the current and future work of the SIG
  • If the SIG does not maintain a Chair and committee, the SIG will dissolve      
     

*  The Board reserves the right to approve or deny a proposed SIG, regardless of requirements met
 

Next Steps

  • The Board reviews applications on a rolling basis
  • Board seeks interest in proposed SIG from membership 
  • SIG is approved or denied
  • If approved, proposed committee will begin working with ASPDA staff on the formation of SIG
  • All ASPDA SIG registration runs annually beginning June 1 
  • For consideration for a June 1 start, the application must be submitted no later than March 1

The Sports Nutrition Immersion Program matches sports dietitians with ASPDA members who are interested in gaining practical hands-on experience. The 2026/27 program will provide paid fellowships, each for eight months.  Please review the SNIP Host/Mentor Application Guidelines for a detailed overview of the requirements and expectations.
